Dinamo Zagreb 🇭🇷 vs Qarabag 🇦🇿
The hardest call in the Champions Path. Dinamo have the pedigree — 8 Champions League group stage appearances. Qarabag have the momentum — unbeaten in 14 European home matches stretching back to 2024. The first leg in Baku is where Qarabag must take a lead, because Maksimir in Zagreb will be hostile. I'm calling two tight 1-1 draws and penalties. Dinamo's experience from the spot edges it.
Red Star Belgrade 🇷🇸 vs Ludogorets 🇧🇬
Red Star's Rajko Mitić Stadium is the single hardest away trip in European qualifying. The tunnel of noise, the flares, the sheer intensity — Ludogorets have never faced anything like it. Add to that Red Star's summer business: they kept their core and added a proper number nine from the Serbian SuperLiga. Ludogorets are well-coached but don't have the firepower to trade blows over 180 minutes.
Galatasaray 🇹🇷 vs Sheriff Tiraspol 🇲🇩
Sheriff's 2021 fairytale — beating Real Madrid at the Bernabéu — feels like ancient history. Galatasaray have spent heavily this summer and their front three of Icardi, Zaha, and Aktürkoglu is Champions League group-stage quality, never mind Q3. Slavia Prague 🇨🇿 vs Molde 🇳🇴
This is the sleeper tie of the round. Molde are mid-season in the Eliteserien — match-fit while Slavia are still building sharpness. But Slavia's pressing system under Jindřich Trpišovský is designed to suffocate teams exactly like Molde: possession-based, build-from-the-back sides. The first leg in Prague will be won by Slavia pressing Molde's goalkeeper into mistakes. The return leg in Norway — with Molde fighting to overturn a deficit — will be chaos. Young Boys 🇨🇭 vs Raków Częstochowa 🇵🇱
Young Boys on the Wankdorf artificial turf are a different beast. But they lost their best midfielder to the Bundesliga three weeks ago, and the replacement hasn't settled. Sporting CP 🇵🇹 vs Fenerbahçe 🇹🇷
This is the tie of the round, full stop. Two clubs with European pedigree and fanbases that treat qualifying like a cup final. Sporting finished third in the Primeira Liga — behind Benfica and Porto — but their squad is deeper. Viktor Gyökeres scored 26 league goals last season and looks hungry in preseason. Rangers under the Ibrox lights are a force. But this isn't the Rangers of 2022 that reached the Europa League final. They've sold two starting midfielders and the replacements are teenagers. PAOK, meanwhile, have kept their squad intact and added a winger from Olympiacos who scored 12 goals in the Greek Super League last season. The first leg at Ibrox is everything for Rangers — they need a clean sheet and a lead. If PAOK take an away goal back to the Toumba, the tie swings dramatically. Ibrox roars Rangers through. The Play-off Draw — August 3, the Roadmap to the League Phase
The third qualifying round winners will be slotted into the play-off draw on August 3. Four seeded teams enter at this stage in the Champions Path, plus two in the League Path. The seven aggregate winners from those play-off ties (August 18-19 and 25-26) join the 29 direct entrants in the league phase draw on August 27.
The seeded teams waiting in the Champions Path likely include Salzburg, Copenhagen, AEK Athens, and Celtic — all domestic champions who received byes through the earlier rounds. In the League Path, expect to see Lille and Real Sociedad looming as the seeded pair.
For the six teams that survive Q3, the reward is a two-legged tie against a genuinely elite opponent. For the six that don't — Europa League. It's not a bad consolation. But nobody's thinking about that on August 4.
